Review of NOD32 Smart Security

A few months ago I downloaded and installed the NOD32 antivirus solution. To be honest I downloaded the complete NOD32 Smart Security package instead of just the antivirus program.

The entire NOD32 download and installation procedure was the smoothest I have experienced so far. The automatic update didn't take long either and the program was up and running in no time.

The installation of the NOD32 download was also very straightforward. The program is perfectly preconfigured for highest security with minimum user intervention. All I did was confirm the settings for recurring scans of my computer and change it to a suitable time. Like all other security programs the NOD32 download automatically updated itself with the most up-to-date threat definitions, which happens at least once a day. You are automatically notified of the updates.

After the NOD32 download had finished the installation and updates were in place I went on to have a look at the features of the program. The first thing you always notice is the interface. This was another pleasent surprise. The entire interface of the NOD32 Smart Security program is both smooth and intuitive and the graphical elements are nice for lack of a better word. I found it easy to get a good overview of the settings and status of the program.

Like I explained previously the NOD32 download preconfigures the program to cover the needs of most users. I would just like to point out that there are lots of advanced options available to the more demanding users such as network filtering, custom firewall rules, customization of the realtime protection, antispam, etc.

The NOD32 download also revealed a couple of other very interesting features:

* ThreatSense. As you know all recognized threats (viruses, etc.) are organized in a database and it was downloaded with the NOD32 download and updated regularly. But some time will pass after a new virus is unleashed until an update is ready for the database. This is where ThreatSense comes in. It is the newest and most advanced technology in this field an acts as an early warning system detecting potential threats.
* ThreatSense.Net. As a user you can chose to help amplify the effectivenes of ThreatSense by allowing NOD32 Smart Security to submit likely new threats back to ESET. That way all users benefit from this until the technicians develop an actual signature.

I was very delighted after I had completed the NOD32 download and installation. The program has already alerted me of one blocked intrusion attempt, warned about several unsafe websites I have tried to visit and the email spam filter does a very good job too. I can highly recommend the NOD32 download package.
